The ancient Greeks and Romans are known to have played many ball games, which involved the use of the feet. For example a Roman game harpastum and a Greek team game known as Episkyros closely resembled to rugby Football. Evidences also show that football like game had been played by Chinese military between 3rd and 1st century BC.

This was a practice game known as Cuju, involved kicking a leather ball through a small hole in a piece of silk cloth which was fixed on bamboo  canes about 9 meters above the ground. Kemari and Chuk- guk were the modified versions of Cuju that were played in Japan and Korea respectively.

Kemari the Japanese version of Cuju was developed during the Asuka period. It has been played within Japanese imperial court in Kyoto from about 600 AD. In this game several people stand in a circle and kick a ball to each other, trying not to let the ball drop to the ground.

There are number are evidences that many ball games have been played by indigenous people in many parts of the world. For example; Aqsaqtuk, each match began with two team facing each other in parallel line before attempting to kick the ball through each other team’s line and then at a goal.
