Virat Kohli after facing a short period of poor performances has just risen up again to mark his name in the record books. A 127 runs knock against West Indies in 4th ODI at Dharamsala was not only a sign of his getting back in game but also his 20th ODI century. He is now amongst the players with 20 or more centuries in ODI cricket. Besides Kohli, only 10 other players have reached the milestone so far. Virat Kohli is the quickest player to compile 21 tons in One Day Internationals. It took only 138 innings of 146 matches for him to make the incredible record. Previously this record was held by Sachin Tandulkar consuming 197 ODI innings. And more interestingly, Kohli has the highest average, highest strike rate, least number of runs, least number of innings and least number of half-centuries at the end of 20 ODI centuries among all the other seven who got to the same milestone.
All players with their 20 or more centuries in ODI cricket are as follows:
|AB de Villiers||182||175||7676||52.93||98.19||20|
As it is said that the records are always meant to be broken, Kohli’s record to be the quickest to reach the 20th ton may also be broken soon. South African batting sensation Hashim Amla seems in much hurry to reach Virat’s infant record. Amla has got 19 centuries at his name in 107 innings of total 110 matches. By the form and amount of consistency he has got, one can easily imagine the number of matches required by him to reach Virat’s streak of fastest 20 tons.
